Title: The Walk In Nature
Size: 9 x 16 Medium: Nature photography Completion: September 3, 2020 Exhibition Text The Walk in Nature was photo taken in Wilson Park, the photo focuses on nature and its beauty but its main focus is the sun in the center of the photo. The photo shows a view of Wilson Park's lake surrounded by trees. is more trees and a sunset in the middle and a purple and white sky. I wanted to do show this photo for my final piece because of wildlife, landscape and the texture with the mixture of different colors by changing the brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, skin tone and shadow of the picture. I never had an inspiration in photography until I discover an incredible photographer name Galen Rowell. |
InspirationGalen Rowell
Galen Rowell was born in Oakland but was raised in Berkeley, Ca. Before he started doing photography, he was a lot more into hiking and rope climbing as a child. After graduating from Berkeley High School, he attended Berkeley University to study physics but eventually he dropped out and started working as a mechanic to save money to pursue his love in climbing. During his travels in climbing, he begin on doing photography in 1972, he stated that, "My interest in photography did not begin with a burning desire to see the world through a camera. It evolved through an intense devotion to wilderness that eventually shaped all parts of my life and brought them together." Rowell's photo,"Rainbow Over Potala Palace" which captures a rainbow on the potala palace and in the blue background shows a few mountains. This photo is best known of Rowell and is his most famous piece. |
My Planning
Process & Experimentation
The first thing I did for my photography was walk around for a long time, sometimes I for go long walks, listening to music and when I do walk around, I find an excellent spot somewhere with a beautiful scenery of nature. I usual go to the park or the woods where I can find a lot of incredible scenery but for my final piece I went to Wilson Park on a clear sunny day and as I was there I was seeing a lot of great views to capture a photo in, After that, when I got home, I went through the photos I took, some I fixed over like the 2nd photo when I fixed the contrast, brightness, and shadows in it. That's what I mainly did for all my photos. |

Comparing and Contrasting
The similarity of Galen Rowell and I photographs is how Rowell's work and I have the same idea with the sun setting from back not only that but capture the landscape. The difference however is that his picture want was to focus on the mountains with the sun shining behind it while my picture focus on the the sun itself not only that but where he took his picture looks like a cold place because of the ice on the lake while mine was during the fall on a nice warm day. |
Reflection
I believe that the most important about photography is the lighting when taken a photo because the lighting helps see more better when capturing a photo. Photography is the whole world adventure, interesting, and memorable events in our lives. All in all, this assignment was fun to do. What I'd enjoyed about this photography assignment was enjoying the surroundings and its beauty of nature. This is what I like about Galen Rowell as well, he captures the beauty of it and the way his photos are shot at the right time to take the shot of what he was trying to capture a memorable and interesting moment. The Line is smooth texture is soft, the colors are bright and there is no value to it. The best part is the sun and how it is perfectly centered in the picture. What I don't like is that there isn't a lot of colors in the sky other then white and purple but overall I am very proud of how my piece came out. |
