Title: My Mistake
Size: 30cm x 30cm Medium: Oil Paint Completion: November 1, 2020 Exhibition Text This final piece was cropped from my photography piece, I wanted the movement of my painting to have a realism style rather then impressionism but this was a struggle because I was trying to figure what correct oil painting colors I had to use to mix it together in order to get at least the closest coloring that was similar to my photography piece. |

Gustave Courbet
The artist inspiration for this piece came from the famous french artist Gustave Courbet. He was born in Ornans, France on June 10, 1819. He is best known for his realism in paintings and sculptures. In is early life Courbet had a passion for art with having the inspiration from his sisters Juliette, Zoe, and Zelie. After attending both Collège Royal and the college of fine arts at Besançon, Gustave went to paris in the year 1841 to study in law but after being inspired by other artist, he quit studying in law to pursue becoming a painter. Courbet would later become the first ever to paint a realism artwork. One of his realism painting is, "After Dinner at Ornans" which was painted in 1849 the same year he painted "A Burial At Ornans" but wasn't finish until 1850 and before that he painted, "The Embouchement of Seine" in 1841.

Planning
Reflection
What I like about my painting is the trees because I love the realistic trees. There was so many mistakes I've done. For example, the lake on the bottom of the painting, I couldn't figure out what color was the water was from my photo, it looked black or pink, I couldn't really tell so I did both colors. When I finished I believed it turned out good but looking at it now, I realized that this was a mistake same for the sky, I thought the sky in the photo was orange but it was white with a sunset that was shinning with the white part of the sky but I just painted the whole sky orange. What I learned from all this is that I need to pay more attention to details in things.

Compare & Contrast
Similarities:
We both have water in our paintings,we both have trees, and that we both used oil paint for our work on our landscape. Differences: Other then my water is dark pink and his has a light and dark blue and grey water, I see that the details and effort Courbet used for his work has much more realism then mine. The sky in his painting has a blue sky with clouds all around around while my painting in the sky looks more like a sunset. |

ACT Response
Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause- effect relationship between your inspiration and its effect on your artwork? I chose Gustave for my inspiration because he and I have something in common which is realism. I like realism art because it has more of a realistic art then something that just look fake. What is the overall approach the author has regarding the topic of your inspiration? Courbet's style in painting is realism, I wanted my artwork to be the same because it would make the painting more understandable. What is the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? Same as Courbet's painting, my theme shows colors from the water and a bit of realism from the trees. What kind of (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research? As I was researching, I learned a lot more about my inspiration especially like who was his inspiration or why started painting. I enjoyed researching on him and his work. |
